City Water: Why Treatment Needs Vary

City Water: Not all water is the same.

City Water: Not all water is the same. Sources vary, so the necessary treatment processes vary also.

Water from private wells pose a different set of challenges than city or “municipal” water. Municipal water can have the following impurities:

-Disinfectants like CHLORINE (BLEACH) or CHLORAMINE (BLEACH bonded with AMMONIA)

-Disinfectant Byproducts (DBPs) like TRIHALOMETHANES (THMs)

-FLUORIDES (added at treatment plant)

-PFAS (FOREVER CHEMICALS) from industrial waste/ consumer products that accumulate in city water systems.

-Nitrates/ Nitrites from fertilizers and pesticides.

-Heavy metals like LEAD, MERCURY, COPPER, NICKEL, CHROMIUM, ARSENIC, etc.

-Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from industrial solvents, gasoline runoff, and pharmaceutical traces.

-Hardness minerals (not necessarily dangerous, but these minerals wreak havoc on a home).

-Arsenic & radon which are toxic substances embedded in rocks that leach into groundwater.

-Radionuclides

-Microbes can be reintroduced to your water when systems fail. Have you ever received a “boil water notice”?

A whole house water filter/ softener can help protect your home from much of these impurities, but for truly purified drinking water, you need to have a Reverse Osmosis (RO) filter at the point of use (POU) such as your kitchen sink. We understand that water filtration can be very concerning and a cause for much anxiety.

At AquaCheck we have the expertise and the equipment to ensure safe water for you & your family!
